Hamilton closing several roads for long construction periods starting next week

The City of Hamilton will be closing three roads next Monday and one road next Wednesday for construction that will last between several weeks to a few months.

City staff announced Monday an addition of five roads are scheduled to begin in June with construction and maintenance activities to improve road safety, and serve residents and businesses better.

The announcement also warned of the rotating closures of Queen Street North and Lock Street North with no north or south through access.

Wilson Street becoming two-way street

Wilson Street from Sanford Ave. North to Stirton Street will be fully closed from June 9, to an unspecified time in August, as it gets converted into two-way traffic.

The street will be fully closed, with no local access, but transit, emergency services and waste collection will not be affected.

Corner of Dundurn Street sees seasonal road maintenance

Dundurn Street North from Jones Street to York Boulevard will be closed for six weeks starting June 9, as part of seasonal maintenance and road infrastructure upgrades.

The street will be fully closed with no through traffic, however local access will be maintained where possible.

This work is part of the larger Cannon Street and York Boulevard improvements that began last year.

Harrison Road closed during Bridge 404 replacement

Harrison Road, from Hall Road to Kirk Road will be closed from June 9, to late December for the replacement of Bridge 404.

The road will be fully closed with a signed detour in place, but emergency services and waste collection will not be affected.

The City of Hamilton said the only businesses accessible through Hall Road will be: the Binbrook Conservation Area, Wildcreek Farm, and MiKel’s Lavender Oasis.

Garner Road to be improved, with traffic detours and southbound traffic closed

Garner Road at Fiddlers Green Road will be closed at June 11, for around four weeks as the road sees infrastructure improvements.

Westbound traffic will be permitted from Southcote Road to Wilson Street, eastbound traffic from Miller Drive to Southcote Road, northbound traffic will be permitted on Fiddlers Green and southbound traffic will be closed for the duration of construction.

Hess Street North next to elementary school to become two-way street

Construction will begin on June 30, on Hess Street North from Cannon Street West to Barton Street West as the road is change to two-way traffic.

The city says there will be lane closures during working hours and temporary closures overnight for line painting.

Local access will be maintained, and HSR, waste collection and emergency services will not be affected.

There is no listed timeframe to expect when this construction will end at this time.

City staff are encouraging residents to plan ahead and to use alternate routes during these times, and to expect delays and increased traffic on the surrounding roads.
