Hamilton/Burlington SPCA asking for urgent help to source program vehicle

The Hamilton/Burlington SPCA is asking for local help to urgently source a vehicle to provide food for pets in need.
The animal welfare charity is asking local organizations, businesses and community leaders for help that will lead them to secure a dedicated delivery vehicle.
The HBSPCA says the Pet Pantry Program, which provides food to thousands of pets in need, is unable to keep up with the rising demand for support.
The program currently relies on a shared vehicle used across various other programs, with delivery times stretching from 30 to 60 days.
Since its launch, the Pet Pantry Program has delivered around 931,000 meals door-to-door, and nearly two million meals through community partners.
“We have the food, we have the need, we even have the volunteers,” said John Gerrard, the CEO of the HBSPCA in a release. “What we don’t have is a dedicated vehicle to get this food where it’s needed most.”
“Without it, pets in our community are going without meals — and families are left feeling helpless,” said Gerrard.
The charity is asking for help through a few avenues: funding donations to feed more pets; a sponsor or co-sponsor to cover the cost of a vehicle purchase; or for the donation of a new or gently used transit van.
