A fundraiser has been started for the Georgetown family whose home was destroyed last Friday morning in an explosive fire.

The Nikolic family — who have lived in the Halton Hills community for ten years — escaped their home in the early hours of Aug. 22 thanks to the heroic efforts of two neighbours.

Homeowner Vesna Nikolic’s sister Vera says on the “Georgetown house fire” GoFundMe campaign page that the goal is to raise $10,000 to help the family “get back on their feet and get [the] kids ready for the new school year.”

“Vesna N. has been an active member of the community, a proud volunteer for Scouts Canada, a dedicated baseball coach and community supporter, raising funds and donating time and supplies for families in need,” reads the statement.

The cause of the fire — which stemmed from the garage — is under investigation.

There were two electric vehicles inside at the time of the explosion.
