The NDP national council has selected a British Columbia MP to serve as the party’s interim leader.

Don Davies is taking over for Jagmeet Singh, who lost his Burnaby Central seat in the April 28 federal election.

Davies led the NDP’s negotiations with the Liberal government on advancing dental care and pharmacare legislation while serving as health critic in the last session of parliament.

A party official says the rules and timing for a leadership contest will be determined at a later date.
