Dramatic changes are underway in Dallas.
The Dallas Mavericks announced Tuesday the departure of GM and President of Basketball Operations, Nico Harrison, just months after his blockbuster trade of star Luka Dončić.
The franchise says this move reflects a renewed commitment to building a championship-calibre organization.
Harrison was hired back in 2021, and guided the team to the 2022 conference finals, and NBA finals in 2024, when they lost to the Boston Celtics.
Since the trade of Dončić, the Mavericks have had a slow go. They currently rank third in the NBA defensively, but their 3-8 record is the fifth-worst in the league.
In Dallas, its not just a new GM they’re after, it’s a new direction.
Mavericks’ ownership admits mistakes were made, hinting that Harrison’s departure is more than just a change at the top, the next hire could set the tone for the Mavericks’ future.
