No communication from Philae lander

The European Space Agency says Rosetta’s Probe Philae missed its first opportunity to phone home on Saturday.

The agency sees this as an indication its batteries are still run down.

The Philae lander touched down with its solar panels in a shadow which means they aren’t getting enough light to recharge the batteries.

One of the last manoeuvres was to try to turn the lander so it could recharge.

Scientists say even if that succeeded, it could take days or weeks to build up enough power.
