Cause not known in Stoney Creek vacant house fire

Hamilton police are investigating a suspicious fire that started last night in a vacant house near the Stoney Creek waterfront.
Fire crews responded to the structure near the QEW and Fruitland Road around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Upon arrival it was fully engulfed in flames.
The blaze was battled from the outside because of structural damage concerns.
Crews remained on scene due to hot spots inside and the fire reignited at 4 a.m. Firefighters managed to get it under control.
It is not yet known how the fire started, and police say damages are estimated to be $200,000.
One officer remains on scene while they wait for the arson unit to arrive to investigate.
