Canadian jazz vocalist Matt Dusk is getting ready for the holidays with a Christmas concert planned for next month at Fallsview Casino in Niagara.
It’s called “A Very Sinatra Christmas,” with Dusk infusing that Frank Sinatra style into some holiday classics.
CHCH News anchor Matt Ingram sat down with Dusk to talk about the new show.
Dusk will be belting out his ode to Christmas with those velvety vocals, who says he expects the crowd to be his duet partner.
“The best thing is when I get up on stage and you see everyone in the audience singing every word — it’s like a giant sing-a-long,” said Dusk.
Just five days before Christmas, Dusk will be invoking the style of “ol’ blue eyes” — bringing his take on Frank Sinatra’s Christmas performances to Fallsview Casino.
“Sinatra was one of those guys that basically touched every single Christmas standard possible. And at this time of year, big-band music is just synonymous with the holidays,” said Dusk.
It will be his first time on the OLG stage.
“We got a big band, backup singers — all this stuff — we wanted to have one big giant show,” said Dusk. “I have to admit I’m a little nervous. You know, it’s usually — I’m used to playing to smaller venues, and I grew up playing in bars.”
Dusk has spent a lot of time performing in Las Vegas, even sharing a showroom with the late Tony Bennett for a time, and says playing the Falls gives him a similar feel.
“I kind of feel like I’m in ‘Canada Las Vegas’,” said Dusk. “And listen, after the show I’m not going to be going right to bed. I’ll definitely be hitting the casino floor, why not live up the life, it’s Christmastime.”
The show on Dec. 20 may be one of the only opportunities to see Dusk on a Canadian stage anytime soon, as he has only a handful of shows scheduled for the next year.
“The last three years, it’s been almost 100 dates a year, so I do have a little bit of time off,” said Dusk.
But Dusk is always creating new music.
Just within the last week, he released a cover of the global smash hit “Golden” from K-Pop Demon Hunters that has nearly 300,000 views on Instagram.
Anyone interested in seeing the show, “A Very Sinatra Christmas” at the OLG Stage on Dec. 20, at 8 p.m., can get tickets on Ticketmaster.
