WATCH: Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Canada will drop tariffs on some U.S. products to mirror exemptions already set out in the Canada-United States-Mexico trade agreement.

The decision, effective Sept. 1, means most goods will again flow freely across the border.

Political Analyst Keith Leslie says the move will clear space at the negotiating table to tackle lingering disputes over steel, aluminum, and autos.
