Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario reviewing race at Fort Erie Race Track

A race at the Fort Erie Race Track on Monday’s card is under review by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

In the race, the 6-to-5 favourite Princess O Denmark – was up by six lengths going into the first turn, and at one point the announcer said she seemed to be “in a race of her own”, but found the way the race ended “very perplexing.”

Jockey Kirk Johnson did not appear to ask the horse to keep running, remaining high in the stirrups while twice looking over his shoulder.

Princess O Denmark was beaten by three-quarters of a length at the wire.

The communications manager at Fort Erie Live Race Consortium (FELRC) James Culic said they’re taking the matter seriously and will accept the findings of the AGCO’s investigation.

“The AGCO has given us notice of a review and that their investigation is conducted independent of the FELRC,” said Culic. “We will be notified of the decision once it is rendered and they [AGCO] have talked to the jockey.”
