A man is dead and a woman is fighting for her life in hospital following a crash in Guelph

This horrific crash claimed the life a man in his 20s and sent a young woman to hospital, where she remains in critical condition. The impact of the crash was so severe, that it split the sedan in two the car barely recognizable. Forensic investigators with the collision reconstruction unit were on scene gathering evidence and analyzing what exactly happened.
Police say the investigation is still ongoing, but that high speed was a definite factor. Police say the crash is devastating, especially since last week, police from coast to coast have been out in full force, urging drivers to slow down. As part of Canada road safety week and the Victoria day long weekend, the OPP are out on Ontario highways making sure everyone is staying safe.
Last year, more than half of the 332 deaths on OPP patrolled roads were attributed to speed, impairment, distracted driving and not wearing seat belts. The OPP say that so far in 2019, 58 people have died on Ontario highways, that’s down from last year which was 97 around the same time as now.
The OPP say they are relieved to see a significant decrease, but say more can be done.
