CFL season update

First Published:

Commissioner Randy Ambrosie gave an update on the CFL season during a video conference today with season-ticket holders.

Ambrosie says the earliest the CFL can start the season is September. He also stated a cancelled 2020 season remains a possibility due to COVID-19, but it’s too early to make a call at this point.

If the league is able to have a shortened season, Regina is no longer the guaranteed host of the 2020 Grey Cup. The team with the best regular-season mark will host the Grey Cup. If the Saskatchewan Roughriders have the best record, the game could still be played in Regina.

Hamilton will remain as the 2021 Grey Cup host.

Ambrosie has asked the Federal government for financial assistance, $30 million immediately and up to $120 million if the entire season is cancelled.
