Celebrations as Gadhafi gone

First Published:

Deposed Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi is dead.

Libya’s prime minister Mahmoud Jabril says his government has been waiting a long time for this moment.

The rebels made a final push to capture the remaining pro-Gadhafi positions in an apartment building complex in his hometown of Sirte. The fighting was over after about 90 minutes.

NATO has confirmed it hit a convoy of Gadhafi loyalists but so far there has been no word if those strikes killed Gadhafi, or if rebels delivered the final blow.

People on the streets of Tripoli and Sirte were waving flags, cheering and honking their horns.
