Saturday’s game between the Tiger-Cats and Alouettes feels more like a playoff game than a regular season finale.
The Tiger-Cats, Alouettes and Argonauts all dug themselves into a big hole during the season and over the last 2 months, they’ve been in scramble mode trying to get their seasons back on track.
Nobody has got back on track after a slow start in the CFL East better than the Alouettes, who clinched a playoff spot with a win over the Argos on Sunday. If they can beat the Ticats on Saturday, or lose by 7 points or less, they’ll clinch first place. And Jonathan Crompton is one of the main men behind the Alouettes turnaround.
Since Jonathan Crompton took over the Alouettes offence at the end of August, the team has had eight wins and a single loss — which is incredible considering they started the season at one and seven. It’s a comeback like no other in CFL history.
LB Taylor Reed: “He’s turned that team around. He’s managed the team well. We got our work cut out for us.”
The Cats went to work “indoors” today, not wanting to waste a single bit of prep time before they face an Alouettes team that beat them 38-31 in their first meeting back in September.
Crompton completed 18 of his 27 passes that day for 206 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
In ten games, he has completed 59 percent of his passes and is just shy of 2-thousand passing yards.
DB Craig Butler: “I think the only numbers that matter are in the win column and he’s done really well. And he’s been successful doing that for the most part.”
What’s helped Crompton to be successful is that he’s had a very good supporting cast of characters. Duron Carter leads the Als’ receiving corps, and will likely cross the 1-thousand yard mark on Saturday.
S.J. Green, and the Brandon’s, London and Whitaker, also can’t be overlooked, according to head coach Kent Austin: “I think they have done a good job as a staff figuring out who they want to get the ball to and how. They’re doing a good job protecting him out front, don’t give up a lot of sacks and he’s made plays.”
