Catching up with Collaros

The CFL season begins in two months, which gives newest Ticats starting quarterback a little over 8 weeks to learn everything he can about Hamilton’s organization as well as the city itself. Wednesday, he met with members of the media to discuss his progress.

Since we last saw Zach Collaros he says he’s been spending lots of time trying to learn a new language — you could call it “Ticat-ian” or maybe “Austin-ese”: “It’s like anywhere new that you go, because the verbage is so different. It’d be nice in football if everybody said the exact some thing and make it really easy for people.”

The new playbook that Kent Austin and his offensive coordinator Tommy Condell have prepared, may contain some new lingo but Collaros is getting plenty of help from his new teammates: “This morning I was able to get onto the field with a couple of guys. Bakari, Fantuz, Jay and Tasker and some other guys, and get some work in so that was nice. It looks like everybody’s had a good off season. I know we’re still 2 months out but I thought the routes were sharp and everybody was in pretty good condition so that’s exciting.”

The 25-year old Stubenville, Ohio native says while he’s in town he’s looking for somewhere to live during the CFL season: “I’m kind of a homebody, I like being around my family, especially being away for 6 months. But if they asked me to move here tomorrow I would do that.”

The next time Collaros is expected back in the hammer is about one month from now when the Cats will hold their OTA’s — or organized team activities. It will be Collaros’ first time suiting-up in black and gold, and our first look at the Cats new QB in action.
