Car slams in to yoga studio

First Published:

In Hamilton one person has been treated for minor injuries after a collision that sent a car into a building.

A car crashed into the Shanti yoga studio at Main St West and Locke around 9 pm tonight. Though it has been removed, damage can still be seen where the car hit. Witnesses say that a van tried to make a left turn from one of the middle lanes and caused a car to veer off the road and into the building.

The driver of the car was treated at the scene. Hamilton police continue to investigate but they say that alcohol does not appear to be a factor at this time.

Those who work at the yoga studio say this is a common occurrence.

Studio manager Jay Hendry says “sooner or later, somebody’s going to get seriously hurt. There’s a lot of mothers and children coming down here in strollers and so on, always standing at this intersection, and everyone’s coming down here about 70-80 (kilometres per hour).”

Instructor Alex Bovkis echoes that concern.

“Given how often accidents happen here, I feel that something needs to be done. Where it’s, I’m not sure who to approach, but something needs to be done about the turning lanes here.”
