Canadian picked number one in NBA draft

First Published:

Canadian sports history was made tonight at the NBA draft. Anthony Bennett of Brampton was the first pick in tonight’s draft in New York City.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, the former team of Lebron James, made the surprise pick. Bennett is the first Canadian to go first overall at the annual draft.

The 20-year old had been projected to go between third and sixth. Even though there was no clear cut consensus, number one was a shock to almost everyone at the Barclays Center.

Bennett is 6 foot 8 inches, 260 pounds, a power forward, and will join another Brampton native, Tristan Thompson in Cleveland.
