The Canadian government and Miami police are working to find out what happened Monday afternoon after an alleged drug robbery that lead to a shootout at a small apartment complex.

17-year old Jean Wabafiyebazu is dead and his 15-year old brother Marc is in custody after an alleged drug deal gone bad — at an apartment building in Miami. The boy’s mother is Roxanne Dube, a high ranking Canadian diplomat in Florida. On Monday afternoon, the two boys borrowed her BMW, with diplomatic plates, and drove to the apartment to buy marijuana. The younger brother reportedly sat in the car acting as a lookout as his brother went inside. Police say they believe Marc and Jean planned to rob the drug dealers.

A pool of blood could be seen inside the doorway of the apartment. One of the alleged drug dealers was also killed in the shootout.

19-year-old Anthony Rodriguez was arrested at a nearby gas station, he’s been charged with murder. Marc Wabafiyebazu was arrested at the scene, and is facing a murder charge. He won’t have diplomatic immunity, since he is not an employee of the consulate.

Under Florida law, anyone involved in a violent crime in which a murder is committed could also face a murder charge. Marc Wabafiyebazu is being held in juvenile detention. The court will decide if he’ll be tried as an adult.

His brother’s body will be transported back to Canada.
