Canadian comedian Norm Macdonald dies at age 61

Canadian comedian Norm Macdonald has died at the age of 61 after a nearly decade-long battle with cancer.

Macdonald, a former “Saturday Night Live” writer, performer and “Weekend Update” host, was born in Quebec City, Que.

He passed away on Tuesday after keeping his nine-year battle with cancer quiet.

Macdonald’s death was confirmed by his management team, Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

After leaving “Saturday Night Live” in the late 1990s, Macdonald starred in an ABC sitcom. He was known for his deadpan style of comedy and wrote for the widely popular show, “Roseann.”

Many celebrities posted tributes online to honour Macdonald, including Adam Sandler, Conan O’Brien, and Larry The Cable Guy.
