Canada suffers first Covid-19 fatality

First Published:

A North-Vancouver man in his 80’s is the first case in the country to succumb to the Coronavirus.

Health officials in B.C. say the man was already dealing with a number of underlying health conditions when he contracted the disease.

Despite growing concern over the spread of the virus, health authorities in Ontario are not recommending a ban on large, public gatherings. Health minister Christine Elliott says the virus isn’t circulating locally and all of Ontario’s 35 cases have been linked to recent travel. Four of those cases have already been resolved.

There are now more than 11,000 cases and nearly four-thousand deaths world wide. Roughly three-quarters of those cases and deaths are still in China.
