C.J. Gable returns to the lineup

Because of injury, C.J. Gable hasn’t been able to do what he’s capable of doing — at least not on a regular basis. The 2nd year running back has missed a good chunk of playing time this season. But barring a setback, Gable should make his return to the lineup Saturday night against the Eskimos.

After missing four games nursing a foot injury, C.J Gable will finally make his way back to the playing field on Saturday: “I’m just gonna’ play my game. Whenever I get the ball I got to make sure to be patient, not go out there too excited, just go out there relaxed and do me.”

In the six games he’s played this season, Gable has run the ball 30 times, for 138 yards, including two touchdowns. That’s far from the goals he set out for himself during training camp, but he’s respectful of the fact that he’s not the only player expected to run the ball: “When I get in there, they really can’t key on me because everybody else is making plays. Unless you can cover every single one of us, it’s going to be a real difficult game.”

The one thing the Ticat rushing leaders have in common is that all of them have suffered injuries this season, which means the team had no choice but to share the duties.
And while the numbers aren’t among the top ten in the CFL, Kent Austin says that’s okay: “We’re not going to be a 150/160 yard average team. We’re not constructed that way in the run game. But if you look at our balance of what we do offensively, we’re pretty pleased with where we’re at.”

The Ticat rush averages 5.4 yards per carry, which is fourth best in the league. And with Gable back in the lineup, Austin hopes that number will improve: “He had a knack for making big plays as well, before he got hurt, and just a highly dedicated guy that both our offensive linemen and QB trust.”
