Two-term mayor Rick Goldring was ousted Monday night in favour of councillor Marianne Meed Ward and only one incumbent councillor will be back at city hall.
Marianne Meed Ward says Burlington will be run differently under her watch. For starters she won’t be asking to annex Waterdown.
But the mayor-elect says there’s another part of Hamilton she does want to take over, Lasalle Park.
“We have maintained that park, we’re building a floating breakwall, we pay to maintain it and take care of it, but we don’t own it,” said Meed Ward.
She says that negotiations with Hamilton will be a priority when she takes office. She won’t be able to reverse council’s decisions on development, but believes in limiting downtown to mid-rise buildings, under 12 storeys tall.
She’ll be working with almost an entirely new slate of six councillors, only Paul Sharman was re-elected.
