(Updated) “It’s more than appalling. It’s absolutely an outrage and it’s not right in this day and age and in this century.”

The wife of Burlington teacher Neil Bantleman, who’s been trapped behind bars in Indonesia, is upset about the latest twist in her husband’s case: he has been transferred to another facility.

It was announced last week that Neil Bantleman will face trial on charges after being held in custody, along with a colleague, for more than three months. His brother, Guy Bantleman, says the two have been moved from the police detention centre in central Jakarta to a pre-trial holding area in east Jakarta.

Guy says he’s worried for his brother’s safety and about the duration of the entire process.

“We are going to continue on. I wrote back to foreign affairs last week after the letter. Neil wrote a letter and Tracy pinned the letter to Stephen Harper.”

“I reached out to Thomas Mulcair and Justin Trudeau. We will continue to push on through foreign affairs and high ranking government officials to really get Indonesian authorities to provide the information so we can ensure a fair trial at the end of the day.”

Bantleman’s wife Tracy is asking the embassy to review the case.

“We’re very nervous about the safety and security of Neil and Ferdie, I know that the embassy has been with them for the day as well as the lawyers. They’ve been monitoring that extremely closely but as you can imagine we continue to live through this injustice and nightmare.”

Indonesian police are investigating sex abuse claims involving three kindergarten students.
