Burlington man faces several charges after failing to stop for police

A Burlington man who hit a police cruiser while trying to get away from police faces several charges.

Halton police say officers tried to pull over a vehicle in the area of Highway 6 North and Leslie Rd. on Friday evening as part of a drug trafficking investigation.

Police say the driver tried to take off and hit a police cruiser and another vehicle before losing control and driving into a ditch.

No injuries were reported and the damage to the vehicles is minor.

Police say 27-year-old George Smith was arrested.

He’s facing a slew of charges including flight from peace officer, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Officers executed two search warrants following the arrest – one in Burlington and one in Wasaga Beach.

Police seized:

  • 2,308 grams of methamphetamine
  • 246 grams of cocaine
  • 271 grams of fentanyl
  • 50 hydromorphone pills
  • 6 Oxycodone pills
  • Approximately $9,000 in cash
  • Flick knife
