Burlington man charged in hit-and-run

A 23-year-old Burlington man has been arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run involving a teen cyclist, Friday.

A 13-year-old boy was riding his bicycle through the intersection of Applyby Line and Taywood Drive in Burlington around 5:30 p.m. when he was hit by a car.

The teen was rushed to a nearby hospital before being flown to the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. He was in critical condition, but was later upgraded as being stable.

Police say the driver was arrested a short time later but could not comment on the charges.

Stephen Balon was arrested and is to appear in court on December 7.

Police continue to investigate and are asking anyone with information about the incident to call them or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-22-8477 (TIPS).
