Brantford police seize carfentanil; drug more potent than fentanyl

First Published:

Brantford Police seized several substances which were sent for testing and revealed they contained the drug carfentanil. It’s a substance you cannot see, taste or smell, but if mixed with drugs can be fatal.
Carfentanil is about 100 more time potent than fentanyl, meaning it is 10, 000 times more potent than morphine.
The Brantford Police Service continues to investigate and respond to calls involving citizens who have suffered apparent drug overdoses.
Police are reminding the public if you think you see someone overdosing, call 9-1-1 immediately, and if available to use nalaxone. Naloxone is an emergency medication that reverses the effect of an overdose from opiods such as carfentanil, fentanyl, heroin, methadone, and morphine.
