Brant resident loses $1,000 in Kijiji ad fraud

First Published:

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fraud after a Brant County resident reported being defrauded $1,000 during a Kijiji transaction.

On Saturday, Aug. 13, police say a Brant resident sent an e-transfer to purchase a boat that was seen in a Kijiji ad. The buyer was sent to pickup the boat at an address where they discovered the sale was not legitimate.

Police continue to investigate.

OPP say three parking spots have been designated as a Safe Trade zone in the parking lot in front of the building at 67 Bethel Road, Paris. The spots are marked with signs and the police are encouraging the public to utilize the zone so that online marketplace transactions are not done in secluded parking lots or private residences.
