Brant County Health Unit (BCHU) has confirmed two new cases of COVID-19, bringing the area’s total lab-confirmed cases to three.
The cases include a man in his 50s who recently travelled to the United States.
Health officials say the man went to the Brant Community Healthcare System on March 17. He was assessed and released home to self-isolate.
The man’s condition worsened and he returned to the hospital overnight between March 21 and 22 when he was admitted and tested for the virus.
His results came back positive and he is currently being treated in the critical care unit.
The second case is a woman in her 40s who works at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
Officials say the woman developed mild symptoms while at work on March 18 and immediately left. The woman has not recently travelled and it is still not known how she contracted the virus.
The woman was treated by Brant County health workers and confirmed positive on Monday.
She is currently in self-isolation at home and is still experiencing mild symptoms.
BCHU is working to identify anyone who may have been in close contact with both cases during the period they were symptomatic before self-isolation began.
