Brampton woman charged in Hamilton crash that sent her daughter to hospital

First Published:

A Brampton woman is facing charges in an east-end Hamilton crash that left her five-year-old daughter with serious injuries, police say.

Police and paramedics were called to the intersection of Centennial Parkway and South Service Rd. for a single-vehicle crash on Sept. 8.

The driver, a 32-year-old woman, was travelling westbound on South Service Rd. when she lost control of the vehicle and hit a light standard.

Her daughter was in the vehicle and was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Police say the girl is still recovering.

The collision reconstruction unit investigated and say speed has been ruled out a factor.

Police say the girl was not properly secured into the vehicle and the actions of the driver resulted in the collision, prompting charges under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.

The woman has been charged with careless driving causing bodily harm and failure to ensure a child is properly secured.

She is scheduled to appear in court next month.
