Testimony continued today in the Tim Bosma murder trial and the jury heard that being friends with one of Bosma’s accused killers had a lot of perks.
Andrew Michalski kept saying today he didn’t really want to do the illegal things he did with Dellen Millard, like stealing plants from a nursery in the middle of the night. He said it wasn’t for money or excitement, he said it scared him. But nor could he explain why he went along with Millard plans without question or complaint.
Andrew Michalski didn’t tell the truth the first time he talked to police, when he was arrested for Tim Bosma’s murder after his roommate Dellen Millard was arrested. Michalski was never charged and almost two weeks later, he did tell police about helping millard get rid of evidence shortly after his arrest on May 10th.
He heard about the arrest the next day from the other accused, Mark Smich, who he described as an acquaintance. He said Smich was angry and forceful when he told him to get rid of any drugs in the house. The jury saw the later text message from Smich, “tell him where its at and ask him to bring it to me with the other thing”.
He was talking about Matt Hagerman, who got a yellow toolbox from Millard shortly before the arrest and was asked to hold it for a couple weeks. Hagerman and Michalski, now panicking with the news of Tim Bosma’s disappearance, dumped the drugs and the toolbox in a stairwell in Oakville and told Smich where to find them. Prosecutors believe the gun used in the murder was in the toolbox.
Michalski talked about how friendship with Millard meant perks, weekly pool parties, trips and driving your choice from a fleet of hobby vehicles Millard kept in his hangar. It also meant “missions” where the friends would steal things, like a bobcat machine. The missions were always Millard’s idea, Michalski testified.
Michalski knew Millard and Smich were planning to steal a vehicle and on May 7, the day after Tim Bosma’s disappearance, he asked Millard whether the mission had been successful. Millard replied yes.
