Bontis on Business

Time to talk business now. Award winning professor from the DeGroote School of Business Nick Bontis is here to discuss these topics:

We had a story earlier about the massive IPO for the e-commerce giant Alibaba. Now that we have some background, we want to know why the company would want to go public since it is already making money. Is this a strategy for attention? Because that has clearly worked!

What kind of impact can you see Alibaba having on the price on sites like Amazon and eBay? Will they have to drop their prices to stay competitive?

With the release of the iPhone 6 today, it lead to the typical line ups of fanatical Apple fans who just have to have the latest and greatest from the tech giant the day it becomes available. But can the hysteria and hype live up to user expectations?

We’ve been hearing that it may not be the most impressive device available, and some people say it’s just catching up with other smartphones. Is there any fear that if the phone doesn’t live up to expectations or critical analysis that Apple could fade/lose market share etc?

On the same day we heard about the iPhone 6, we also found out that all iTunes subscribers were getting a free copy of U-2’s new album. But that hasn’t exactly gone over well. People are complaining about files being put into their iTunes folder that they didn’t ask for. Did Apple overstep by ‘forcing it’ into everyone’s iTunes and is there any risk of blowback on U2?
