Now for our Bontis on Business segment we are joined by finance expert Nick Bontis to respond to these subjects.

We’re going to start with the crisis in Ukraine and Russia. Russia’s credit rating has been downgraded what impact will that have on Russia’s economy?

Up until now sanctions from the west have targeted individuals, not entire economic sectors. Is it possible to slap economic sanctions on russia without harming western allies or other countries that do business with Russia?

Now a daily consumable – water. A CNN report says the S&P Global water index has outperformed the gold index and the stock market over the last 10 years. Water is a 600 billion-dollar business, and researchers expect it to grow to one-trillion dollars over the next six years. With this in mind, water is worth more than gold. How important is canada’s fresh water resources to the economy? Is water a good investment?

It’s been a bit of a wild week at the pumps. Gas prices jumping to near record highs — around the $1.40 mark a litre. But then Thursday night, we spotted prices in Hamilton around the $1.30 a litre mark. And Friday, prices were back around $1.39 at some stations and $1.32 at others.
