Independent MPP makes history, wins seat in Haldimand-Norfolk

First Published:

Doug Ford and his Progressive Conservatives are preparing to form a new government following their stunning election victory this week.

In this region, the new MPP for Haldimand-Norfolk is making history for defying Ford and achieving an unusual accomplishment in Ontario by winning a seat as an independent.

Even though Bobbi Ann Brady has been a long-time Progressive Conservative and an aide to veteran Conservative MPP Toby Barrett, he wasn’t running this time and campaigned for her.

Brady said she ran as an independent after the PCs appointed Haldimand County Mayor Ken Hewitt as the party’s candidate without a nomination meeting and despite the feelings of local PCs.

Al Sweeney has all the details.
