When you go pick up your bread and milk at the grocery store next month , depending on where you shop, you’ll also be able to pick up a 6 pack, or 2.

The province says it’s aiming to have beer sold in as many as 60 grocery stores by the end of December.

Starsky’s on Queenston is among the list of stores that the government has selected to sell beer. Other stores include Loblaws, Longo’s, Metro, Sobeys and Walmart.

The 60 stores that will sell beer by the end of the year must apply now to the alcohol gaming commission of Ontario for licences. The 13 stores and chains must sell beer at the same prices. The aim is to sell the suds in up to 450 grocery stores across Ontario in the next 3 years.

Some customers are thrilled. Other’s…not so much.

Earlier today Finance Minister Charles Sousa explained the reasoning behind expanding beer sale distribution.

“So this is about ensuring that convenience is had, access is had, social responsibility is maintained, and consumers benefit from a lower cost of beer because that distribution is also being maintained.”

As it stands right now there is only 4 other provinces that sell beer in grocery stores.
