(Update)
The names and faces of the trio of RCMP officers killed in Moncton, New Brunswick were released to the public Friday. The three men — all under the age of 50 — died in one of the worst mass shootings in RCMP history. Tonight, we can tell you the 24-year old suspect is now facing three first-degree murder charges — and attempted murder charges.
The three officers were identified as Constable Fabrice Georges Geyvaudan, Constable Dave Joseph Ross and Constable Douglas James Larche.
40-year old Constable Larche is from St. John, New Brunswick. He was a highway patrol and general duty officer and had been with the RCMP for twelve years. He was an investigator with the major crime unit and received a commendation six years ago for saving the life of an unconscious baby in Moncton.
45-year old Constable Fabrice Georges Geyvaudan was born in france and joined the rcmp at regina, saskatchewan after revieving his canadian citizenship.
He’d been with the RCMP for six years and had been with the codiac detachment since becoming an rcmp officer.
Constable Dave Joseph Ross was 32-years old. He is from Victoriaville, Quebec and had been an RCMP officer since 2007, working in general duty policing and most recently as a dog services handler.
Ross was married with a 19-month old baby boy and another child on the way. His family spoke to the media today.
Wiping away tears, his brother said he was an inspiration and a role model — the best brother anyone could ask for.
His mother said her son died a hero and that she was proud of him. His sister said she was very proud of him and the family thanked the people of Quebec for their support.
Tributes continue to pour in from all over the world and all across the country.
The CN Tower will be lit tonight in red, blue and gold in honour of the 3 fallen and two wounded officers as tribute to the courage and dedication to public service of these and all officers.
The lighting will be from sunset to sunrise.
