ArcelorMittal Dofasco fined in 2018 pollution release in Hamilton

ArcelorMittal Dofasco has been fined more than $250,000 for a large release of pollution in Hamilton back in the summer of 2018.

Environment Hamilton’s Lynda Lukasik took photos of the black plume back in July 2018.

At the time she described the emissions as “intense.”

The company entered a guilty plea for violating a section of the Environmental Protection Act and was fined $268,750.

The money will be paid to the City of Hamilton.

Environment Hamilton is asking them to use those finds to plant trees and do other greening measures in neighbourhoods near the industrial core.
