With temperatures below zero this morning, a 13-year old Burlington boy walked to school in shorts and a t-shirt to raise awareness for homelessness.

Grade eight student at Sir Ernest MacMillan Public School in Burlington, Noah Rutka, was cold this morning walking to school along Headon Road, but he did it to remind everyone that many homeless or disadvantaged people need warm clothing this time of year.

“I have a couple of friends who live in subsidized housing an I know that their families are doing the best they can for them and it’s hard either way,” says Noah.

“I want people to know that there are people out there who don’t have good housing, or houses at all, who live on a bike or something like a shopping cart. Their life is that shopping cart and everything it holds. I went to Hamilton and I saw a woman with a shopping cart and three bags. That’s all she had.”

Noah encourages anyone who can to donate warm clothing to any local charity that will distribute the donations to help those in need.
