Ontario’s Education Minister told reporters that no decisions have been made regarding class sizes for students in junior kindergarten to grade three. However the NDP feel that the PC’s have already made their decision to remove the hard cap.

Kindergarten classes max out at 29 kids, while grades one to three are capped at 23 students. If removed, class size could take a page from higher grades and be determined by averages, something the teachers union is against.

Facing a multi-billion dollar deficit heading into the spring budget, educators fear the PC’s could boost class size to cut costs. Minister Lisa Thompson says she’s also seeking feedback from education experts on the hiring process for teachers.
