Niagara police are searching for a 21-year-old Quebec man following the planned theft of an Audi SUV from a dealership in St. Catharines in March.

Police say two suspects contacted Audi Niagara at the beginning of March to schedule a test drive for a 2021 Audi RS Q8 Quattro SUV.

The pair gave dealership staff fraudulent identification before the test drive and then proceeded to steal the vehicle.

The stolen SUV was later found in Toronto, and police were able to identify the two suspects as 48-year-old Michel Pothel and 21-year-old Romeo Cyr, both from Quebec.

On Friday, Pothel was found to be in custody for an unrelated matter. He was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and failure to comply with a probation order in connection with the stolen Audi SUV.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Cyr, who is wanted for the theft of a motor vehicle, personation with intent, uttering forged documents, and possession of identify information for fraud.

He is described as being five-foot-ten in height, 175 pounds, with a slender build, brown hair, and blue eyes.

Anyone who sees Cyr or knows of his whereabouts is encouraged to not confront him and contact police at 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009677.
