A Woodstock man is facing charges after he allegedly broke into a shop and got in a fight with the owner.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report about a break and enter in progress around 3:45 a.m. on Monday.

Police say an unknown man broke into a shop on a property in South West Oxford Township. They say the homeowner awoke and confronted the man inside the building.

“Both became engaged in a verbal altercation which then turned into a physical confrontation,” said OPP in a news release. “The male suspect then fled from the area and was followed by the homeowner where a second physical altercation took place.”

The homeowner subdued the suspect and he was arrested by police.

Christopher Durston, 45, has been charged with break and enter, assault, trespassing at night, possession of a firearm, and fail to comply with probation order.

He is scheduled to appear in a Woodstock court at a later date.
