Justin Trudeau in Hamilton

First Published:

The Prime Minister was in Hamilton for Good Friday. Justin Trudeau helped hand out fish and chips to the homeless and then stayed for mass at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on Friday..

It’s always a Good Friday around St. Patrick’s Church in Hamilton.

“We feed around 300-400 people a day and on Friday. It’s always BBQ. Today is Good Friday, meatless day, fish and chips.” According to Father Jarek Pachocki. “We really don’t know how the Prime Minister heard about it.”

Likely it was local MP’s Filomena Tassi and Bob Bratina who alerted the Prime Minister to the outreach at the catholic church. On Fridays, catholic high school kids come to church to help feed the homeless. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was also helping.

Fathers Tony O’Dell and Jarek Pachocki came to Hamilton to help revive the St. Patrick’s parish.

There was heavy panhandling and we tried to figure out how to address it. So we talked to the people and they explained well, we are hungry. We need something to eat. So, as the gospel says, feed the hungry.” says Pachocki.

The missionary priests are also restoring the 144 year old building, including the marble floors and stained glass windows. but it’s this statue out front that really speaks for the church.

“The homeless Jesus out front is a big symbol of who we are and who we serve.” says Father Pachocki.
