Outrage in Waterford

First Published:

Outrage in Waterford as photos of emaciated horses circulate online.

The OSPCA and the OPP have launched an investigation into the care of the animals. One of the horses was euthanized today.

Pictures posted on Facebook by Natalie Tupper have been shared nearly 7,000 times. Tupper says over the last 6 months she’s been monitoring the condition of the animals and reporting to the Ontario SPCA.

The OSPCA says the owners have been cooperative. In a statement the OSPCA says “We recognize the pictures shared on social media of the horses are concerning.” they go on to say that “the horses involved are sick and have been under ongoing veterinary care”.

The OSPCA says whenever they have visited the property the horses have had adequate food, shelter and water. But those protesting here today are questioning those standards

In the statement the OSPCA says “We want to remind the public that images on social media do not share the full story” but the Prevention of Animal Cruelty Organization was not on the property today.

After demanding answers from the OPP, protesters were informed that the two horses that remain on the property will be taken to a farm under the care of the Simcoe and District Humane Society, but the investigation continues, and charges could still be laid.
