Land Acknowledgement and Reconciliation statement

CHCH and its parent company Channel Zero acknowledges that our operations take place on the traditional territories of the Attiwonderonk, the Haudenosaunee, and the Anishnaabe, including the Mississaugas, who have lived, cared for, and made treaties over these lands for centuries. We are mindful that this region is governed by treaty relationships, including the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Covenant between the Haudenosaunee and Anishnaabe, and the 1701 Nanfan Treaty.

We recognize the historic wrongs of colonization and the lasting impacts those actions continue to have on Indigenous Peoples. These include the loss of land, language, and culture, and the ongoing struggles for equity, justice, and recognition of rights.

The Dish With One Spoon Covenant teaches us that we share responsibility for this territory, and that all peoples have an obligation to respect, care for, and sustain the land and water. At CHCH, we are committed to carrying this teaching forward.

In the spirit of reconciliation, we pledge to:

  • Listen and learn from Indigenous voices and stories.
  • Amplify Indigenous perspectives through responsible and respectful journalism.
  • Support education and awareness in line with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, including Call to Action 86, which calls on media organizations to provide education for staff and share the history and legacy of residential schools with audiences.

We recognize that reconciliation is an ongoing process, not a single day or statement. We commit to walking this path together, in a spirit of peace, friendship, and respect.
