98 new COVID-19 cases reported at one Windor-Essex farm

First Published:

The number of COVID-19 cases among Ontario’s migrant farm workers has jumped.

The province reported 96 new cases at a single farm in Windsor-Essex on Sunday.

The cases were discovered through a mobile testing campaign.

Officials will be on site Monday to conduct in-person assessments at the farm, which was not named.

There are now more than 800 cases of COVID-19 among migrant farm workers in Ontario.

The jump in cases has new public health guidelines directed at the agri-food sector coming under scrutiny.

They allow asymptomatic employees who test positive to keep working under certain conditions.

The protocol was to encourage employers to co-operate with mass testing without fear of losing their workforce to self-isolation.
