French President Francois Hollande confirms 84 people have died and 50 others are in critical condition following last night’s attack in Nice, France, when a truck plowed into crowds of people celebrating Bastille Day along the famed Promenade des Anglais in the seaside resort town.
Police fired bullets into the vehicle in attempt to stop it’s deadly spree, killing the driver, who has been identified as 31-year-old Mohamed Laouaij Bouhlel. Bouhlel was Tunisian-born but was living in France. Authorities say Bouhlel was married with three children. It is still unclear at this point if he acted alone or if this was part of a larger, organized attack.
Hollande said that the nation would be extending the state of emergency that was set to expire on July 26th, which was still in place following the deadly terror attack at the Bataclan concert hall in November, killing 130 people. Hollande also declared three days of national mourning beginning tomorrow.
