Today marks the 76th anniversary of D-Day.

When 150,000 Canadian, British, and American troops stormed the beach at Normandy, France, it was an epic battle that included nearly 7,000 allied ships and landing craft and 2,400 aircraft.

When it was over, there were 946 Canadian casualties. It marked a turning point in the second world war and ultimately led to the liberation of Nazi-occupied Europe.

For 75 years, members of the Royal Canadian Legion in Dundas have marched from the legion to a nearby church to celebrate the D-Day victory.

For many years, it’s been St. James Anglican church. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was a virtual celebration.

But, the special prayer service was able to maintain its emotion and meaning.

While the D-Day celebrations and prayer vigil this year were different, the sense of celebration and pride were loud and clear.
