A 69-year-old driver was killed in a crash on the QEW this morning.

Burlington OPP responded to a three-vehicle collision this morning around 1:23 a.m. Police say it happened on the Toronto-bound lanes, near Bartlett Avenue.

The vehicle was weaving through the lanes when it struck the right-side guard rail and then ended up into the left-side concrete guide rail. Another crash took place shortly after. As a result of that collision, two other vehicles were involved in the secondary collision.

Reports from the scene suggest Niagara EMS were the first to arrive and removed the driver for treatment. CPR was administered after paramedics confirmed the patient was unconscious.

The 69-year-old driver of that initial vehicle was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

There were no injuries reported from passengers in the other vehicles involved.

The QEW was closed as investigations began. Witnesses told police they saw the 69-year-old weaving through traffic before the collision.

Police say there are indications of the driver being under the influence.

The identity of the person who died has not yet been released.

The closure which affected all lanes of the QEW, ended around 8 a.m. and lasted over six hours. The roads have since been reopened, and police continue to investigate.
