5 abandoned puppies get a second chance in life

First Published:

Five young puppies will have a shot at a healthy life after possibly being abandoned in a ditch last month.

An anonymous person discovered the dogs and dropped them off at the Niagara SPCA, where they’re preparing to find them a new home.

The Niagara SPCA says these five black standard poodle puppies came to their door after a woman says she discovered them in a box in rural Niagara Falls.

The SPCA’s Tyler Greer says the baby pooches were delivered to them by the woman on February 21st with a note left in the box with the dogs, stating their breed and the date January 6th, indicating their birthdate.

Greer, a former animal cruelty investigator, says abandonment is considered a criminal offense. But the SPCA says you can drop off unwanted animals without penalty.

The five poodles haven’t been named yet, but the shelter says they have one male and four females in the house, where there’s warmth, food, and plenty of toys.

They’ll be ready for adoption by the end of next week.
