2nd nurse in Hamilton to test positive for COVID-19

First Published:

91 healthcare professionals have tested positive in Ontario since the start of the pandemic.

Public health hasn’t broken down who caught the virus in the workplace or through travel, but today we are learning a second nurse has tested positive in Hamilton.

Hamilton Health Sciences confirm that a nurse who works at McMaster Hospital has the Coronavirus.

They are currently working with public health to identify and inform individuals who may have been associated with this case.

A spokesperson for Hamilton Health Sciences says the area where the nurse provided care has been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

They won’t say what unit the nurse worked in or how many people could be impacted.

This is the second nurse working in a Hamilton hospital to test positive for the novel Coronavirus.

The previous nurse worked at the Charlton Campus of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and provided dialysis care at Hamilton General Hospital.

As of Friday at noon Hamilton public health confirmed 51 cases in the community.
