27 arrested after rash of catalytic converter thefts in Hamilton

First Published:

Hamilton Police have arrested 27 people in a rash of catalytic converter thefts in the city.

The investigation, dubbed Project Garfield, began in June after a number of incidents were reported to police.

Catalytic converters are typically targeted for their value in scrap metal.

Police say officers patrolled targeted areas for two weeks.

At the end of those two weeks, they had made 27 arrests and laid 68 criminal charges.

One search warrant was executed and 45 provincial offence notices were issued.

Police say those arrested were not working together.
